Located in the heart of the Domaine de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle was built in 1681 by Louis XIV’s favorite architect and a leading figure of French classicism, Jules Hardouin-Mansart. This spectacular building once welcomed members of Europe’s political and cultural elite, from ambassadors to artists, musicians, writers, and scientists of the Enlightenment.
More than two centuries later, following a complete restoration, Le Grand Contrôle has been reborn to offer its guests an exclusive experience of the Château de Versailles. Stroll through its 800-hectare gardens, walk in the footsteps of illustrious figures, and discover the Château’s rooms and apartments in a new light.
The 13 rooms and suites, restored with the utmost respect for their original spirit and furnished with period pieces, immerse guests in history while offering the full comfort of modern luxury. From antique furniture and paintings to the staff uniforms, Le Grand Contrôle preserves the authenticity of the 18th century. Lighting has been specially designed to reflect the style of the era, while televisions discreetly disappear in favor of breathtaking views over the Orangerie parterre and the Pièce d’Eau des Suisses.
From the Valmont Spa with its indoor pool to the Michelin-starred restaurant by Alain Ducasse, service is reimagined through royal classics. At Le Grand Contrôle, the French art of living and service is expressed through singular touches that, for the length of a stay, recreate the atmosphere of another time.
